I have had a few comments and questions about my pup and about my Carly sign. I thought I would post an update on both.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiRRC8CWu-oUN7H431aPXFUX0Hi2vjwPrVJW3XJlBScKI3aTfYjFShURYGr9g25bF2fPFoWHqn9BlUT8a6qtuC33Hiq8Qbm9o7PDxwVGiP5e0ruVryOW6OlpB7r1IddBXEvFST00wfKA/s1600/219.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiRRC8CWu-oUN7H431aPXFUX0Hi2vjwPrVJW3XJlBScKI3aTfYjFShURYGr9g25bF2fPFoWHqn9BlUT8a6qtuC33Hiq8Qbm9o7PDxwVGiP5e0ruVryOW6OlpB7r1IddBXEvFST00wfKA/s320/219.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Carly is now a year and a half. As stated in my other post, she is a Borador (Border Collie and Lab mix) As she got older, she started showing characteristics of a Greyhound. Her hind is very slender and she runs very fast and has the gallop of that breed. She is a wonderful dog and loves people. She is still a puppy so she still gets excited when she sees her family for the first time in the morning and after we come back home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbbCTGbz2YS9q66UOgP5mbsGymayUdzAPt4_1rm9ZIchb_XI_L4EsFzVOvgkAbFMGn9CNFhKCuw91vdrPZlC7JO4Uvr8WwdN4x-IOVznyxa-XefAtfgW3H-t-hALlcT86Ki0YCOJ18iQ/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbbCTGbz2YS9q66UOgP5mbsGymayUdzAPt4_1rm9ZIchb_XI_L4EsFzVOvgkAbFMGn9CNFhKCuw91vdrPZlC7JO4Uvr8WwdN4x-IOVznyxa-XefAtfgW3H-t-hALlcT86Ki0YCOJ18iQ/s320/004.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As for the sign? Well, as much as I would love to manufacture these in my home when someone orders them, I just don't have the time. I appreciate the interest in my little creation, but I must say that it is an easy one to make. If you don't have a cricut, I think they sell vinyl letter that you could use instead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I haven't been blogging <strike>much </strike>at all because I started working as a preschool teacher last August and l just haven't had time to do any refinishing. I have crafted with my kids, but just haven't been documenting it as much. I will try this year to get back to blogging. We'll see though, no promises!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thanks for stopping by!</div>

</div>Wow! I guess the fact that I said I can't do projects that cost money got me motivated to finish the framing in the kitchen since I already had the wood. <br />
<br />
<br />
I'm not going to give you a detailed tutorial on doing this, since everyone's windows will be different. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcLlhubflS8T6r8ee9UQhASWpNLv87IQqBY-370GMX7akeRWY0mkAtSnqYYwbMaAjXp-UIoyPI-byfKzo-v_BCRT5CnNTPdbL_-jtQQBy8ifav7HuxIt1gkaFtf78BPCpgRG4gD2yd1w/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcLlhubflS8T6r8ee9UQhASWpNLv87IQqBY-370GMX7akeRWY0mkAtSnqYYwbMaAjXp-UIoyPI-byfKzo-v_BCRT5CnNTPdbL_-jtQQBy8ifav7HuxIt1gkaFtf78BPCpgRG4gD2yd1w/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But, what I will tell you is that I made the ledge first, then made the top and then the sides. I did it like this to make sure the measurements were accurate. All three windows were not exactly the same (of course). </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinVRn8zXr9g-M86l3-jTrI2BAZLYtMvd5Sju9O90v2OyytU8XPI76_W3TyIdhyphenhyphenbaZpb45MkGVPvz8d38t-gIJAhRH6qXkOnu7kLVKJteRxwhcnNOyaa4EYGaDLSi9tPPB5xcwJknp5_g/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinVRn8zXr9g-M86l3-jTrI2BAZLYtMvd5Sju9O90v2OyytU8XPI76_W3TyIdhyphenhyphenbaZpb45MkGVPvz8d38t-gIJAhRH6qXkOnu7kLVKJteRxwhcnNOyaa4EYGaDLSi9tPPB5xcwJknp5_g/s400/002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>I also have to work around the rounded edges of the window. That's why you'll see so much gapping. This doesn't matter since it will be covered by the molding (when I am able to purchase some).<br />
<br />
The framing is actually not nailed in yet, I still need to pick up some shims to level the ledges and square it all up. I highly suggest not skipping this part, it will affect the square of your molding.<br />
<br />
Obviously there is more to the project, but let me tell you, I feel such a sense of accomplishment since this project has been on my mind for about a year now (ok, maybe for 5 years, but I never thought <strong><em>I</em></strong> could do it until about a year ago) Now, I at least know that it will get completed...eventually (:<br />

So grab 2 bags for $1 or if you have more coupons, stock up so you can make these cute snowmen for gifts this Holiday season for cheap. I'm sure we'll see the hot chocolate cheap in the fall.<br />

Cost: $169.99 sale)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Let me start by saying that our family is a one income family where my husband is the bread winner. We do ok and even have savings and only car and house debt. However, we always felt like we should be saving more and should have more "in case of an emergency" money. <br />
<br />
My husbands company has decided to pay for their employees to go through <a href="http://www.daveramsey.com/store/prod163.html?ictid=glp2.tandrleft_pub">Dave Ramsey's financial peace University</a> program. They feel that having their employees debt free and secure with their finances that they will become more productive because they wouldn't be thinking or stressing about home finances. They would also more than likely stay in their jobs and turn over would decrease...pretty innovative, don't you think?<br />
<br />
As a family, we have been using an envelope method of sorts. My husband and I got an allowance that I would separate into "groceries", "gas", "kids", and "Janelle" envelopes. Once the cash was gone for the week, it was gone. So, the program isn't far off from what we are doing already, but I have already learned so much and we are only on lesson 3. <br />
<br />
One thing that I "learned" or realized was that we weren't putting money away each month for those things that we KNOW are going to happen. Like, Christmas, doctor's visits & medications, household repairs, etc. We would always just pull money from other areas and suffer for a little while. I think about the future when I can sit back and relax when the washer breaks because I have been putting away $30 a month to replace it when it breaks down in 2 years.<br />
<br />
This program is so interesting to me and my husband that all other projects are being put on hold while we complete it. In actuality, my spending money is being put on hold until we get a grasp on our budget. But, I do have lots of wood & paint on hand so you might see a project here and there that cost nothing for me. I have already started the kitchen window framing project, so that might get partially completed (:<br />
<br />
So, that's what I've been up to for a couple weeks now (besides doing mom stuff with my kids). I highly suggest this program to anyone and everyone, even if you feel pretty stable in your financial life. You will be surprised what you'll learn.<br />
<br />
<em><span style="color: #741b47;">(The comments about this program are completely mine and I have not received any compensation for the review of this program)</span></em><br />

I put containers in the fridge with their names on them and had each child pick out 4 snacks in the morning. These were the only snacks they could have throughout the day. They didn't need to ask permission to eat any of them, but once they were gone, they were gone! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It took only one time for my son to learn his lesson. He decided to eat all of his snacks in the morning and was hungry in the afternoon (right before dinner). I didn't cave in and he never did it again. It was a lesson and although I really was tempted to give in, I knew that i would regret it. I feel like I am shouting..."Hey Burgalars come and steal my stuff"! So anyway, we just got back from New York...Buffalo to be exact. My husbands family lives there and we were visiting them as well as seeing the area.<br />
<br />
We went to Niagra Falls:<br />
<br />

I got that project done and then two weeks before my sister-in-law was due I saw a post about a Bapron and a tutorial on how to make one. Here is a picture of it:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIMZ7G9EInSsxFPpQqOCP_ZNV2EimVETPo_Ya2utX4MHPvbJ0mHfjYn6fSsztb4M5G2RJn3WHFW-iqPvL4rX-DFVRvVmuYoASPfJZW9MuTRA64m62pUD1yIdR2Rt_pA12__4KrTVxh1hM/s1600/IMG_0680.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIMZ7G9EInSsxFPpQqOCP_ZNV2EimVETPo_Ya2utX4MHPvbJ0mHfjYn6fSsztb4M5G2RJn3WHFW-iqPvL4rX-DFVRvVmuYoASPfJZW9MuTRA64m62pUD1yIdR2Rt_pA12__4KrTVxh1hM/s320/IMG_0680.jpg" width="251" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">(To read the tutorial got to <a href="http://theadventuresofroryandjess.blogspot.com/2011/05/bapron-tutorial.html">The Adventures of Rory and Jess</a>)</div><br />
Super cute right? Well, I went to work on making 3 of them. On my last one, my mom calls and tells me that she was having the baby the following day! Nothing like a little pressure! I still needed to start making the carseat tent! Ugh!<br />
<br />
What's a carseat tent? Well here's a picture and the link for the tutorial:<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435641045451228130" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbtAcuF3AqPegEmsZAzzDcvk8yTmFhtXk1NZhrmX-ZuiHw7z_L0mTEV_04di_WxRCCJvDxTjWvZcg3NGWFLyU-c95UXL0qZigeGrz_Gi066yVPRYJ1zVBWasX9cn5Shcsi-T_1-JaFohI/s400/SDC12402.JPG" style="cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">(For the tutorial got to <a href="http://sumossweetstuff.blogspot.com/2010/02/tutorial-tuesday-car-seat-tent.html">Sumo's Sweet Stuff</a>)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So I got to it, and as I am approaching the finishline, my sewing machine breaks! I can't even tell you how frustrated I was! But, luckily my friend Jen has a sewing machine and I went over and finished it fairly quickly!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I used citrus colors for the Baprons- bright pink, yellow, green, and blue. Since my brother was going to be using the same green and brown carseat that they used for nephew, I tried to find some fabrics that would coordinate, but not be overly girly for my brothers sake. I found brown fabric with small white polkadots for the majority of the tent and I found pink,brown,and green stripe to use for the straps and for the bias tape around the entire tent. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">They all came out so cute thanks to the tutorials! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Again, sorry no pictures of my creations because I was in such a rush to get them out that I forgot!</div><div style="text-align: center;">Hope it inspires you!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">My Brother and Sister-in-law welcomed a beautiful baby girl and both are doing just great! </div><div style="text-align: center;">They received the package yesterday and loved everything...YAY!</div><br />

I also make yogurt pops with fresh berries of the season. I just use vanilla yogurt and strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries and blend them together in my Magic Bullet and then freeze.<br />

My kids eat them up and I don't feel bad because I know they are getting their fruit and dairy serving (:<br />

All the moms put in $10 and I put together a Movie Gift Basket.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">First I made a movie clapper using black poster board from the $ store. I used my cricut to cut out the words and used extra white vinyl for the clapper stripes. I used a white crayon to write on the poster board</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipYACW-8ZJckY4wgD-H_fhMXbvQBQqqyHAwUGlARe-5TxetaGQOlx4Jf-9refZ_Q5CKT5Q8Gj9pUeqQYET-8q32yroDIWjwu93Y4PQQVdYJeKk97mq0Gfu9AANcgP64R23AcSpQBiImQ/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipYACW-8ZJckY4wgD-H_fhMXbvQBQqqyHAwUGlARe-5TxetaGQOlx4Jf-9refZ_Q5CKT5Q8Gj9pUeqQYET-8q32yroDIWjwu93Y4PQQVdYJeKk97mq0Gfu9AANcgP64R23AcSpQBiImQ/s320/001.JPG" t8="true" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I picked up a popcorn bucket and basket wrap from the Dollar Tree as well and used yellow tissue paper as the fluff at the bottom. I filled the basket with sweet treats like Mike & Ike, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, Red Vines, etc...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I got a pepsi cup with a lid and a straw and stuffed it with black tissue paper to look like soda and put the movie theater gift card in there. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I cut out "popcorn" from construction paper and had all the kids sign their names and put them at the bottom of the basket. The movie clapper was in the very back of the basket.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

It was supposed to have glass in it, but they couldn't find them so I got an even bigger discount (:<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: #9fc5e8;">(I will use this frame for another project in the future, I've already primed it, you'll just have to wait to see what I do with it.)</span><br />
<span style="background-color: #9fc5e8;"></span><span style="background-color: #9fc5e8;"><br />
</span>After I took the top off, I removed all of the legs and the bottom shelf. I was left with the apron that I needed to cut about 5 inches off the shorter sides. It was really easy, two cuts and I was done. (I used the miter saw to keep my cuts straight). I then reattached the legs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0JUk9Kp8gBPAyu4Ann6oGHvfPPSMTep3VgnFMibzrlD6__2tqJnagmU6pNdfo9MFwDGHj3uvv-fc1rvYXI-WgqQK5hw5g4xXHVlVRl4WsM5uzVkzjHjkpMajTkxp3Z_WRtpcToW0OQ/s1600/016picnik.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV0JUk9Kp8gBPAyu4Ann6oGHvfPPSMTep3VgnFMibzrlD6__2tqJnagmU6pNdfo9MFwDGHj3uvv-fc1rvYXI-WgqQK5hw5g4xXHVlVRl4WsM5uzVkzjHjkpMajTkxp3Z_WRtpcToW0OQ/s320/016picnik.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now I had to figure out the bottom shelf. It was a frame and a rattan insert on a piece of backerboard. I kicked out the rattan backing (well, not really kicked, but I did use my feet for to press the staples away from the frame).<br />

I had a little difficulty because, like I said, this piece was made very well and it had dowels holding the mitered corners together. I tried to pry them apart so I could re-use the dowel method, but was unsuccessful, so I took the saw to it, using a miter box.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now I had to measure and cut the smaller side of the bottom shelf framing using a miter box. I picked up some dowels at Ace hardware (they sell them individually). I drilled where the old dowels were and made new holes on the newly cut side, and inserted the dowels with some wood glue. I straped them while the glue dried.<br />
<br />
I reattached the shelf to the frame:<br />

I picked up a piece of MDF and had the guy at the store cut it down for me. I sanded, primed and painted it and then reattached it to the frame.<br />
<br />
Here is the finished bench: (sorry for bad pictures, this area of my house doesn't have any natural light, so my camera doesn't take the best pictures here)<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
1 C. Milk pinch of Salt<br />
2 Tbsp Butter 4 Eggs<br />
2 C. Sugar 1 tsp. Vanilla<br />
1 tsp. Baking Powder Peanut Butter<br />
2 C. Flour 2 Bags of Choc. Chips <br />
<br />
Scald milk & butter, set aside. Mix dry ingredients with eggs, add vanilla & milk mixture. Beat. Pour into greased rectangular cookie sheet with sides. Bake 350 for 20 minutes.<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I halved the recipe above since it's just our family of four this Easter, so I used two brownie pans</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">After 20 minutes, the cakes might not be brown on the top but should be a little brown around the edges. I cut the cakes with an egg shaped cookie cutter immediately after removing from the oven and put them on a cookie sheet. I had the kids spread the peanut butter onto each egg and then we put them into the refrigerator.</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Have you seen these at your Dollar Tree? I instantly knew it had possibilities. I needed a basket by the front door for my new puppy's leash and baggies. This color wasn't exactly what I wanted, so I experimented a little bit. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRK3tY28aEJfIHpPGd_vhcg7BpIjCCHDgTBCHyMOBoFvioZ58idUhO4n5Fve_En0-e5Q5qjrMHTlb3FjuVsOF4qRFTQL1kNaghUx8ZxGoCsM5gJtCNiXmEfqRA3LOsrd02ovYcsGSQDw/s1600/011picnik.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" r6="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRK3tY28aEJfIHpPGd_vhcg7BpIjCCHDgTBCHyMOBoFvioZ58idUhO4n5Fve_En0-e5Q5qjrMHTlb3FjuVsOF4qRFTQL1kNaghUx8ZxGoCsM5gJtCNiXmEfqRA3LOsrd02ovYcsGSQDw/s320/011picnik.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is my basket now! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>How did I do it</strong>?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>Step 1: </strong> I took the basket and stained it with Minwax Dark Walnut. </div><br />
<br />
(If you get the darker brown basket, you'll be able to skip this step...that color was gone when I went back to buy it)<br />
<br />
The stain looked nice, but I wasn't done. <br />
<br />
<strong>Step 2: </strong> I took some black paint and brushed it on and then wiped it off.<br />
<br />
<strong>Step 3: </strong> I then took some light gray paint and watered it down. I brushed it into the crevasses and wiped it off.<br />
<br />
<strong>Step 4: </strong> For the liner, I honestly had dimensions and then had to adjust as I went. So, unfortunately I don't have the exact dimensions for my finished liner. <br />
These were my original dimensions and all include a 1/4 inch seam allowance for either side.<br />
<br />
Bottom rectangle (7 x 2.75 (includes 1/4 seam allowance)<br />
Back ( 7 bottom x 8.75 top x 11 Height)<br />
Rounded front (16 top x 11 bottom x 11 Height)<br />
<br />
<strong>Step 5</strong>: I sewed the Back and rounded front first and then sewed to the bottom. Might not have been the best way, but it ended up working out just fine.<br />
<br />
<strong>Step 6</strong>: I cut a 4.75 slit on the back panel to fit over the handle and sewed it so it wouldn't fray.<br />
<br />
<strong>Step 7:</strong> I then painted a scrap wood rectangle and drilled 2 holes on either side and inserted wire to attach it to the basket (attach before putting the liner on)<br />
<br />
My tag is blank because I can't decide if I should have it say "DOG" or have it say my pups name "CARLY". What do you think?<br />
<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">My friend and I had a yardsale in February and she had an old dictionary that didn't sell and I kept it, thinking I could do something with it. Well, I did. I turned to "B" for butterfly and ripped it out. I taped it to a piece of printer paper and put it into my printer and printed my butterly on it. (I know you can't see the definition of "Butterfly", the graphic didn't print close enough to it to fit into this smaller frame...oops...oh well)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> I love how it turned out. It will be on my headboard coatrack wall. You'll still have to wait to see that wall until it's done, but you are getting to see bits and pieces of it as I add to it.</div><br />

<br />
<strong>To do:</strong> Make rice crispies treats. Lay a rectangle of wax paper on the counter and put some warm treats on it. Wet your fingers and flatten them out in about a 4 inch wide strip. Put gummy candies in a row down the middle (red and green). Use the wax paper to roll them into a cylinder. Put into the fridge to cool. Take out and cut into sushi size disks and wrap with green fruit by the foot (or fruit roll ups cut into strips).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

My kids talked about this meal all year. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I had to come up with something new this year (of course).<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Luckily I came across this "candy in a fruit can" tutorial that Laura over at <a href="http://cometogetherkids.blogspot.com/2011/03/april-fools-candy-in-fruit-can.html">Come Together Kids</a> did. My kids will have this in their packed lunch. I will have to add cookies or something else that is school appropriate. But I thought this was a great idea that I think they will talk about all year! Plus they won't be expecting a trick in their school lunch (:<br />
